Ciders

Brothers Cider is a brand of cider originating in Somerset.

The cider is made with a carefully selected pear juice using a fermentation process that's been developed over generations to retain the natural sparkle and preserve the more delicate flavours. Brothers' use their own specially grown yeast and do not rely on commercially available dried stuff. During fermentation, everything is kept under pressure to make sure the finished cider retains all its own carbonation, some producers just pump in CO2. This results in distinctivly small bubbles and the fact the cider stays fizzy longer.

The creation of four brothers, Matthew, Jonathan, Francis and Daniel Showering, hence the name Brothers Cider. It was originally made in Shepton Mallet in 1992 and still is to this day. The original Showerings business was perhaps best known for Babycham: it eventually became part of Taunton-Coates-Gaymer, aka Matthew Clark Taunton and now part of the Constellation Group

In 1995 Glastonbury Festival gave way to the Brothers Bar and now is served at many festivals accross the country including Download Festival.

Brothers Cider is available in four variations including:

* Festival Strength Pear Cider - 7.0% abv "Perry", The favourite for festival-goers.
* Pear Cider - 4.7% abv "Perry", Light and naturally sparking with a clean and refreshing taste
* Original Apple Cider - 4.7% abv Fresh Apple cider made in a traditional West Country method.
* Strawberry and Pear Cider - 4.7% abv Strawberry infused pear cider. Bright in colour, sweet in smell with a good balance of sweetness and acidity.

All ciders are sold by in 500ml bottles or in cups and plastic bottles at festivals.

Brothers Cider is set to become the official cider of Glastonbury Festival until 2011, the company announced today.

The contract allows Brothers to sell cider across the bars on the festival site as well as have its own exclusive bar area throughout the three-day event, which runs from June 22-24, 2007.

Brothers Drinks co-founder, Matthew Showering, said: "We launched Brothers Festival Strength Pear Cider at Glastonbury over a decade ago, up until recently we only sold it at the festival.

"Now 12 years later, we're launching Brothers Cider nationwide and signed a four-year contract with Glastonbury Festivals, which is a huge achievement and a perfect fit for the brand moving forward in the music arena."

Glastonbury festival organizer Michael Eavis said: "As a local company Brothers Drinks has a natural home at Glastonbury Festival, so it was an easy decision for us. It's brilliant to work with them as an official sponsor after 12 years presence at the festival."

We first started selling our Pear Cider at the Glastonbury Festival in 1995 near the
Jazz World Stage. Over the years, festival goers kept asking us if it was possible to
get our drink when the festival was over and in 2005 we decided to market it to pubs
and supermarkets. Now you can get it all over the country and at other festivals
besides Glastonbury.
