French White Wine

The long, wide valley of the Loire represents one of the most far reaching wine regions in France, stretching from the Massif Central in the centre of the country to the shores of the Atlantic Ocean in the West. The amount of land under vine is approximately half that of Bordeaux but slightly larger than the Rhone Valley. The size of the region means a wide variety of wines are produced from crisp dry whites, to light refreshing rose, to ripe, fruity reds and luscious, rich dessert wines.

This world famous vineyard area in Northern France is centered around the small town of Chablis. The terroir here is crucial to the style of wine, with the best vineyards being limestone overlaid with Kimmeridgian clay. Typical Chablis has a greenish tinge to it and a distinctive acidity countered by rich fullness on the finish.
